Family visits

York Mansion House welcomes visitors of all ages to enjoy the magic of this beautiful home. Throughout the year we offer a variety of free-with-admission and paid-for activities, which have ranged from an incredible Haunted House to a weekly story time, and we are proud to be recommended by the amazing Little Vikings and York Mumbler.

Activities

At the home of the Lord Mayor of York, your little ones will be welcomed as an honoured Little Lord Mayor, and invited to explore the house as though it was their own, taking the lead on their visit.

We run a variety of seasonal trails and activities throughout the year, always revealing new secrets and sharing stories about mayoral life. Our trails are incredibly popular with children… and adults! Trails are included in admission unless stating otherwise, and information about our latest events can be found on our what's on pages.

Access and Facilities

We're proud to be fully accessible, with lift access and ramps throughout, as well as a step-free entrance. Inside, we have three large staircases, but our lift will allow you to access the whole building.

We welcome families and babes-in-arms. Please note: we do have limited storage for pushchairs but we will do our best to accommodate upon your arrival.

We have accessible toilets on the ground and first floor, and baby changing can be found in the ground floor toilet.

There are a number of seats available for use throughout the building, and please feel free to breastfeed wherever you feel comfortable.

We don’t have a café in the house, but our central location means we are surrounded by some of the best family-friendly cafés and restaurants in the city. You can find some great recommendations via Visit York.

School and Educational Visits

We welcome visits from schools, uniformed groups, home schoolers, lifelong learners, and we've developed an education programme to support all stages of the curriculum. Please visit our Learning pages to find out more.
